As Parliamentary Secretary for Disabilities and Children’s Services in the Labor government, The Hon Bill Shorten Prior addressed The Sydney Institute on Tuesday 13 July, Prior to his election to parliament, in 2007, Bill Shorten was the National Secretary of the Australian Workers’ Union. In his time responsible for disabled services in Australia, Bill Shorten was passionate about making the services for the disabled a priority of government. In his address, Bill Shorten spoke of the need for a new approach to the whole question of disability and warned it would be become the burning issue of the coming decades.
