The Hon. Maxine McKew MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Early Childhood Education and Child Care, addressed The Sydney Institute on 7 April 2009. Before being elected to Federal Parliament, in 2007, Maxine McKew was a prominent broadcast and print journalist for 30 years. She began her address by outlining her successful campaign for Bennelong, which ousted the former Prime Minister, John Howard. Her paper then covered Labor initiatives in early childhood education, emphasising the importance of a dynamic and stimulating environment in the early years of a child’s development.
