Ms Embesat Khan was born in Lahore, the capital of the Punjab province in Pakistan and was elected Member of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab in General Elections 2002, a year when the election of women to the Assembly reached its highest figure in history (74 members). Of the 371 seats in the assembly, 66 are reserved for women. Embesat Khan worked closely with Benazir Bhutto and then became affiliated with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
