On Monday 23 March 2009, as the Global Financial Crisis continued to deepen, Federal Treasurer Wayne Swan addressed The Sydney Institute. His message was frank but also one of steady resolve that Australia and Australians in general had the strength and talent to withstand a long period of ecinomic challenge. In his speech, Wayne Swan explained the strategy behind the federal government’s initiatives in confronting the GFC; why it had taken measures to quickly stabilise Australia’s banking system and put money into the pockets of ordinary Australians though the stimulus package.
