The Hon Simon Crean is Minister for Trade in the Rudd Labor goernment. Prior to his election to parliament in 1990, Simon Crean was President of the Australian Council of Trade Unions. As an MP, Crean has held a number of portfolios, including Primary Industries, Employment and Shadow Treasury as well as serving as Labor’s Opposition leader. Simon Crean addressed The Sydney Institute on Wednesday 5 August 2009, at a time when many commentators concurred that the worst of the global financial crisis had run its course, and the foundations for global economic recovery had been laid.
