In June 2009, an article on Russia’s Defence Ministry website blamed Poland for commencing World War 11. In August 2009, on the 70th anniversary of the Nazi-Soviet Pact, senior Polish officials spoke directly of the Soviet Union’s complicity in the commencement of World War 11. Professor Adam Rotfeld is Co-Chairman of the Polish-Russia Group for Difficult Matters – which deals specifically with such issues as Katyn and the current strategic situation in Eastern Europe. During a visit to Australia, Adam Rotfield addressed The Sydney Institute on Monday 28 September 2009 and explained the background to the debate over the outbreak of the Second World War and the Nazi-Soviet Pact.
