On Wednesday, 24 November 2004 Wayne Swan, Shadow Treasurer after the 2004 election, taking over from Simon Crean, gave credit to the Hawke-Ketaing government for major economic reforms while recognising further challenges lay ahead for Labor in devising policy that rewarded the contribution of every Australian made to the current level of high. Hinting at tax reform, Wayne Swan said, “I want to remove more impediments to their hard work and their personal prosperity – just as Labor governments have done in the past.”
