Bio: British historian Frank Welsh is the author of Great Southern Land: A New History of Australia (Penguin 2004) which is the first substantial history of Australia to be written by a non-Australian. In the introduction to Great Southern Land, Frank Welsh explains that he spent five years writing the book becasue he loves Asutralia and the people, and found writing about Australians a privilege.”Australia is probably the most successful society in the world an the most agreeable to live in,” he writes.
